An Odoo and Shopify integration needs a verified connector, clear ownership of products and inventory, agreed fulfilment rules, and a tested recovery process. Confirm the exact Odoo version, hosting, connector availability, commercial terms, and support before including a solution in your implementation scope. A successful connection does not by itself prove that orders, returns, stock, and accounting will stay correct.
Verify availability for your deployment
Odoo's 19.0 documentation describes a Shopify connector, and its setup page specifies Odoo.sh and version 19.0. That documentation alone does not establish that the connector is available or included in your database or contract. Ask for confirmation against your exact deployment before choosing an approach.
If evaluating a different connector, use the same discipline. Record its publisher, supported Odoo versions, hosting requirements, supported Shopify features, maintenance terms, and upgrade policy. Have the proposed provider demonstrate the workflows you need. Do not assume that two products called Shopify connectors have the same behaviour.
Assign an owner to each kind of information
Decide where product descriptions, prices, stock quantities, customer information, and order statuses are maintained. A store may remain the selling interface while Odoo becomes part of the operational process, but the exact ownership rules must be explicit. Two editable copies without a conflict rule create avoidable ambiguity.
Map each Shopify SKU, variant, and location to the intended Odoo record or location. Include discontinued products, bundles, new products, and multiple stores in the discussion where relevant. Decide who approves new mappings and what should happen when an order arrives with an unknown product.
- Product identity: which identifier stays stable when a title changes?
- Stock authority: which system determines what can be sold?
- Location mapping: which physical or virtual location does each quantity represent?
- Order ownership: where can an order be cancelled or changed after import?
- Exception ownership: who investigates a failed or incomplete synchronization?
Understand timing before promising stock
The connector described in Odoo's documentation uses scheduled actions rather than real-time synchronization. Verify the timing of your chosen solution and the events that trigger inventory updates. Avoid describing a connection as instant unless you have evidence for that specific configuration and workflow.
Test the business consequence of a delay. For example, two channels may accept an order for the same remaining unit before quantities update. Decide how reservations, availability buffers, backorders, and customer communication should work for your operation. The acceptance test should include competing demand rather than only an isolated order.
Choose the fulfilment and returns process
Document where fulfilment is confirmed and which system communicates shipment details. The documented Odoo connector has different return behaviour depending on where deliveries are handled. For any connector, ask for the complete flow from the customer's return request to stock disposition, credit, refund, and accounting review.
Use a test order containing two products, then ship one first, cancel the other, and return the shipped item later. Inspect the records in both systems after every step. Confirm that quantities, delivery references, financial documents, and customer communications remain consistent with the intended process.
Reconcile payments and Canadian accounting
Ask your accounting owner to define how orders, taxes, discounts, shipping, refunds, fees, and settlements should appear. A paid order and a bank settlement are not the same business event. The chosen process needs a way to explain differences rather than treating every mismatch as an integration failure.
Build representative examples using the provinces, currencies, and transaction types your business actually handles. Review the tax treatment and accounts with the responsible professional. Confirm whether taxes are imported, mapped, or calculated in the proposed setup, and who maintains that decision when products or selling arrangements change.
Require a recoverable connection
Test a timeout after an order has been received but before the sending system sees confirmation. The recovery process should identify whether the order already exists before retrying. Then test an invalid SKU, an expired credential, and a temporary outage. An operator should be able to see the failure and resolve it without guessing.
Agree on monitoring, reconciliation reports, access permissions, credential rotation, and maintenance ownership. Keep credentials out of shared spreadsheets and ordinary enquiry forms. An Odoo business needs review can document these integration dependencies before the implementation scope is agreed.

Can I keep Shopify while implementing Odoo?+
That can be an integration scenario to evaluate. Verify the selected connector and demonstrate the specific order, stock, fulfilment, return, and accounting workflows you need.
Is a Shopify connector included with every Odoo deployment?+
Do not assume that. Confirm current availability, supported version, hosting, module terms, and maintenance with the relevant provider before budgeting or scheduling implementation.
Will inventory synchronize in real time?+
It depends on the chosen solution. The connector described in Odoo's 19.0 documentation uses scheduled actions. Test the actual delay and how the business handles competing orders.
